EIC – European Iaido Championship

Finally after two years of silence, 3th and 4th of september the EIC is happening again. This year we are going to Modena Italy. May 29th we had individual and team selections. We are proud to say that we have THREE members joining the EIC. Luc Permentier is going in the Mudan category, Pramit Basu is joining in the Sandan category and Kim Croes is joining in the Yondan category. Pramit and Kim are also chosen for the Belgian team. Two out of three Belgian team members are Kenhachi members!

Although it is summer and alot of people are going on holidays, Kenhachi still has weekly trainings for those who are willing because you can’t go to a European championship if you don’t train. So for now our chosen members are preparing for Modena.

31.08 The time has come to prepare for departure. Our members have done their training and are packing their bags. The nerves are slowly coming to the surface. Preparations are done, next stop is the seminar in Modena on friday 02.09 the last practice before the actual competition on Saturday 03.09.

01.09 This morning at 5 am our members left in the direction of Italy. After a long drive in wich everyone has done their part, they arrived at 7pm in Modena, Italy. Tomorrow the seminar is starting as a preparation to the EC. After a full day of training our friends are enjoying some tatsy Italian food and beer. Then relax and sleep well because tomorow is the big day! See the pictures below.

02.09 Today the Iaido seminar is happening in Italy. Below you can see the schedule. A whole day of training and getting the last tips and tricks from the highest sensei to improve yourself. After a big day of training our friends are enjoying a nice meal and and ofcourse a cold refreshment 😉 . All work and no play makes even our Kenhachi members dull boys :).

03.09 Finally the day has come for the individual matches. Our three contestants have had there breakfast and are getting ready to leave for the hall. The matches can be watched via the official EIC website, link below, and then go to streams. There are several courts that you can switch through and check out. You can recognize any Belgian participant on the Belgian flag that they have on there zekken ( nametag on the chest). Toi Toi Toi everyone 🤞

We are at the end of the individual championships! Kim en Luc sadly didn’t make it through the pooles in the morning. Pramit won his first three matches, but he lost his first knock-out. In the commendation ceremony Kenhachi got a nice suprise when Pramit was handed the ‘fighting spirit’ certificate in his category! Although we didn’t get any medals we are still happy with the performance of our members. Gratz to all of you for participating in the EIC and for your achievements.

After a long day our friends are going for dinner now and relaxing in their room so they can prepare for the teammatches tomorow. Kim en Pramit will be attending for Belgium.

On sunday the countries fought for the golden medal. Team Belgian did not get any medals but our very own Kim Kroes got the fighting spirit certificate. Congrats to him.

After a long weekend of a lot of stress and nerves the EIC was closed with the Sayonara party! Till early morning the contestors danced the nerves away. Thank you to Italy for the organisation and congrats to all winners. Check out our pictures below.

Now our members are getting ready for the EJC in two weeks. Folow the blog to know what happens there.
